Sportsbook gamblers remember that the Rockets were barely over .500 last season in NBA betting and that was lacking Yao Ming playing even only one competition.
The Rockets may be vastly better in 2010-2011 against the odds at the Internet sportsbook if Yao is healthy and productive. Yao has rarely been healthy, however, and that’s the issue for Houston.
Sportsbook odds post Houston as 35-1 to win next season’s NBA championship. The Houston Rockets probability of competing for an NBA championship in fact rest on the left foot of Yao Ming. He can make a major difference if he’s healthy. Almost never has Yao been healthy though. Yao has even said that if his foot injury is not fully healed he may be playing his last season of basketball. The Houston Rockets do not seem too concerned as general manager Daryl Morey said that Yao is on pace to be in training camp and play in preseason games in sports betting.
The Houston Rockets need to get something out of him since they are paying Yao a ton of money. Yao will make $17.6 million dollars this season and he’s in the final year of his deal. When he’s on the court, Yao can be a force for the Houston Rockets. He has not been in the game an adequate amount for Houston however. In the last 5 seasons, he has missed time as a result of injury. Yao has said that he may not be the same competitor that he was before his injury. He’s a seven-time All-Star and has averaged 19.1 points and 9.3 rebounds in his career.
He missed only 2 games out of 246 for the first 3 years that he played with the NBA. He was placed on the inactive list for a prolonged period of time in the course of his fourth season after developing an infection of the bone marrow in his left big toe. He had surgical treatment and missed 21 games. The same season, he smashed a bone in his left foot, a trauma that required half a dozen months of rest. Yao smashed his right knee and missed another 34 games the following season. A year later, he received another stress fracture in his left foot, and he missed the remainder of that season. A sprained ankle in addition to one more hairline fracture in his left foot prevented him from playing in the playoffs for the 2008 season, and he missed the 2009 season to handle the recurring injuries.
There’s a lot of trepidation in Houston even though Houston owner Leslie Alexander was happy about Yao’s workouts. Yao always appears to get injured. And even though the workouts have gone well, people wonder when the next injury will transpire that may end Yao’s career.
Houston was only 37-45 versus the spread last season. The Rockets were led in scoring last season by Aaron Brooks who had 19.6 points per competition. He furthermore led the team in assists with 5.3 per match. Luis Scola led the team in rebounding and in field goal proportion while Trevor Ariza led the team in blocks and steals. Houston was 8th in the league last season in scoring, however their defense was poor. A defense that was 22nd in the league in points per game will be improved by receiving Yao back in the middle.
